  • How is tuition structured at Ocala Music and Arts?
At Ocala Music and Arts, we charge tuition rather than a flat fee per lesson. Each month may contain a different number of lessons, but it averages out to a 46-week calendar year. The tuition rates are as follows: $180 monthly for 30-minute lessons, $260 monthly for 45-minute lessons, and $340 monthly for 1-hour lessons. We also offer a sibling discount of $10 off for each additional student in the same family.
  • Why does the number of lessons vary each month?
The number of lessons each month may vary, but our tuition is structured to average out over a 46-week calendar year. This ensures consistent pricing and allows for flexibility in scheduling.
  • Are there opportunities to perform at your school?
YES! We LOVE to get students up on stage. We hold recitals twice per year, which is included in your tuition costs already! Recitals give the opportunity for students to work hard toward a goal, focus on and master a specific song, shake off the all-too-common stage fright, and build public speaking skills. It's also a great opportunity for students to show off what they've been learning to their family and friends!
  • Will I need to purchase extra materials?
Aside from your instrument, typically the only other cost that we don't cover is your books. Books cost on average around $8-16 and should last several months. Things like recitals, tracks, lesson notes and sheet music are included in your tuition and provided by your teacher as needed.
  • How long does it take to learn music?
The amount of time it takes to learn music depends on the individual and the type of music they are learning. Generally, it takes a few weeks to a few months to develop a basic understanding of music, and years to master it. The best way to learn music is to practice regularly and to find a good teacher or mentor who can provide guidance!
  • Do I need a piano at home to take piano lessons?
The ideal situation is to have at least a keyboard at home, something you can practice on! We recommend something with at least 61 keys, a sustain pedal, touch sensitive keys, and a music stand. Our best recommendation is anything within the Yamaha P-series, most popularly the Yamaha P-45. Still not sure you have what you need? Reach out and contact us!
  • How young is 'too young' for music lessons?
In some cases, even babies can absorb the magic and wonder of music through exposure and having fun, however in most cases we recommend that structured lessons do not begin until the age of 5. We understand that every child is different, so schedule your trial lesson today and see if music lessons are right for your child!
  • How much should I be practicing?
It is recommended to practice a minimum of 20 minutes per day, 5 days per week. However, the amount of practice you should do will depend on the type of music you are learning and your current ability level. Reach out so we can provide you with personalized practice advice tailored to your individual needs!
  • I don't have any musical background or ability; can I still help my child practice?
Yes! Even if you don't have a musical background you can ask the teacher for advice on how to help your child practice. We believe firmly in weekly updates to the parents after each lesson, which is a perfect opportunity to talk about what they're working on and how you can help. Even simply encouraging your child to practice daily puts students on the path of success! You don't need to know exactly what they're working on or how to help them. What your child needs from you most is reassurance and motivation.
  • Do I need to know how to sing to take voice lessons?
No, you do not need to know how to sing to take voice lessons! My lessons are designed to teach students of all skill levels, from beginners to more advanced singers. I will help you to develop your vocal technique and knowledge of music theory!
  • Do you offer any discounts at Ocala Music and Arts?
We offer a sibling discount of $10 off for each additional student in the same family. This discount applies to the monthly tuition rates for all lesson durations.
